MASTERPIECE.
The 'end of the world' feel to many of the updated
mixes are out of this world. Offer has found a new level of magic since he
moved into his house in Tel Aviv and built the studio he's always dreamed about.
This is the fruit. This is Offer at his peak of career. I have not heard
such a wonderful journey since Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder rocked the
Sunset Strip.
Offer, you did good. Your international travels have paid
off with your imagination jumping borders and time and space. Everything you
have done in your 40 year career has led you here. Led us here. And I am no
longer surprised when I hear your songs playing from stores and bars and cafes
throughout the world.
The new mix for 'Tel Aviv' [which begins with a
bomb siren sweep] is heartbreaking and sad, yet one can't help but dance and
carry on. With war drums in the air and bomb fears from Iran looming, this is
Offer's anthem for the era.
The two mixes for 'My Only One' present the
duo at their most creative, and I suspect Yinon is there too on this track.
It's a new direction with an old holy city sound. A bittersweet meditation on
loss and longing; on being still in the sun. And Maya's happiness of
finding love and marriage shines here. This song also represents Offer's most
developed foray into classical music themes. The future?
'You We So Right'
received the most emotional reaction from the crowd at TLV last weekend. Some
clubbers were seen in tears. Yes, it's a tribute to LIME and an era gone by of
intelligent, romantic dance music. But its also a sad sweep of missing things
and missing youth. Yinon's engineering on this track is one of his best. So tight. The
"family" is in fine form. Thank you for putting troubles aside and coming together.
As
summer begins for us in the northern hemisphere, we have found our soundtrack:
From Mexico to Milano, and back again.
Of course we always long for new
tracks and new excitement from the DJ side of Offer Nissim, but I raise my glass
in tribute to what has been achieved with the new Maya CD and its productions,
which were years in the making and perfecting.
Offer, you have come so far from the days of your youth, spinning
Planet Rock and Freeeze IOU. YOU are now making the classics.
A Million Stars to you.... and thanks for the dreams xo
